Integration of GIS and Remote Sensing explores the tremendous potential that lies along the interface between GIS and remote sensing for activating interoperable databases and instigating information interchange. It concentrates on the rigorous and meticulous aspects of analytical data matching and thematic compatibility - the true roots of all branches of GIS/remote sensing applications. However closer harmonization is tempered by numerous technical and institutional issues, including scale incompatibility, measurement disparities, and the inescapable notion that data from GIS and remote sensing essentially represent diametrically opposing conceptual views of reality. The first part of the book defines and characterises GIS and remote sensing and presents the reader with an awareness of the many scale, taxonomical and analytical problems when attempting integration. The second part of the book moves on to demonstrate the benefits and costs of integration across a number of human and environmental applications. This book is an invaluable reference for students and professionals dealing not only with GIS and remote sensing, but also computer science, civil engineering, environmental science and urban planning within the academic, governmental and commercial/business sectors. This book presents a novel perspective on satellite systems, reflecting the modern personal technology context, and hence afocus on the individual as end–user. The book begins by outliningkey generic concepts before discussing techniques adopted inparticular application areas; next, it exemplifies these techniquesthrough discussion of state–of–art current and emerging satellitesystems. The book concludes by contemplating the likely evolutionof these systems, taking into consideration influences and trendsin technology, in conjunction with growing user expectations.
In addition to addressing satellite systems that directlyinteract with personal devices, the book additionally considersthose indirect applications where there is an increasing interestby individuals – notably, in remote sensing. As such, the bookuniquely encompasses the entire gamut of satellite–enabled personal/ end–user applications.
Key Features:
Broad scope – views satellite systems generically with regardsto their applicability across a wide range of personal applicationareas
Strong foundation in underlying concepts
State–of–the–art system examples
Review of trends in relevant areas of satellite technology
Revision questions at the end of each chapter
The book is suited to individuals, engineers, scientists, service providers, system operators, application developers andmanagers interested or involved in the use of satellite technologyfor personal applications. It should also hold interest for use inresearch institutes interested in promoting inter–disciplinarycross–fertilization of ideas, as well as by financiers, policymakers, and strategists interested in gaining a betterunderstanding of this technology. sommaire:basic concepts-spectrum and propagation-antennas and noise-modulation and coding-satellite access and networking-doppler and pseudorange(navigation)-doppler and pseudorange(navigation)compreesion, speech, audio and video encoding-techniques and systems-digital broadcasting techniques and architectures-broadcast systems-communications architectures-satellite communications systems-satellite navigation techniques-navigation,tracking and safety systems-remote sensing techniques-remote sensing systems-the futureNote de contenu : appendix a list of personnel applications -index Satellite systems for personal applications : concepts and technology / [texte imprimé] / M.
