Titre : Husserl Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Bell, David (1947-....), Auteur Editeur : London : Routledge Année de publication : 1999 Collection : The Arguments of the philosophers Importance : (XV-266 p.) Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-415-20376-0 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Husserl, Edmund, (1859-1938) Philosophy Masculinity and male identity Western. Résumé : Conflicting Identities and Multiple Masculinities takes as its focus the construction of masculinity in Western Europe from the early Middle Ages until the fifteenth century, crossing from pre-Christian Scandinavia across western Christendom. The essays consult a broad and representative cross section of sources including the work of theological, scholastic, and monastic writers, sagas, hagiography and memoirs, material culture, chronicles, exampla and vernacular literature, sumptuary legislation, and the records of ecclesiastical courts. The studies address questions of what constituted male identity, and male sexuality. How was masculinity constructed in different social groups? How did the secular and ecclesiastical ideals of masculinity reinforce each other or diverge? These essays address the topic of medieval men and, through a variety of theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary approaches, significantly extend our understanding of how, in the Middle Ages, masculinity and identity were conflicted and multifarious. Présentation : illustrations, cartes, couv. ill. en coul Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4082-6920-6 Note générale : bibliogr. Chronol. Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Imperialism Decolonization Great Britain History Commonwealth British colonies. Résumé : This is a broad survey of the history of the British Empire from its beginnings to its demise. It offers a comprehensive analysis not just of political events and territorial conquests but paints a picture of what life was like under colonial rule, both for those who ruled and for those whose countries came under British authority.
There has been a lively debate in recent years about whether empires generally are good or bad things, and the British Empire has been very much at the centre of that debate, with a number of voices arguing that it was a kinder, gentler Empire than its rivals. This book speaks specifically to that debate, and also to a second and equally vigorous debate about whether anyone in Britain actually cared about the possession of an Empire. The British Empire : sunrise to sunset [texte imprimé] / Philippa Levine, Auteur . - [S.l.] : London : Routledge, 2013 . - (XV-290 p.) : illustrations, cartes, couv. ill. en coul ; 24 cm.
