Titre : Finite element methods for thin shell problems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : M. Bernadou Mention d'édition : 1st English language ed. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Engineering Index. décimale : 624.1 Résumé : This is a collection of the main results of mathematical and numerical analyses related to the approximation of the solutions of thin shell problems by finite element methods. The main modelizations of thin shells are recalled and the associate existence results in appropriate functional spaces are proved. The approximation of these solutions by different kinds of finite element methods is examined in detail: the formulation of approximate problems; the study of existence and the convergence of the approximate solutions to the exact solution; and the derivation of a priori error estimates. These approximations take into account the approximations of displacement and geometry, and those related to the use of numerical integration techniques. Titre : Linear control theory : the state space approach Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Frederick Walker Fairman, Auteur Editeur : Chichester : Wiley Année de publication : 1998 Importance : 315 p Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-471-97489-5 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Linear control theory the state space approach LQG control linear algebra matlab experiments Index. décimale : 515 Résumé : Incorporating recent developments in control and systems research, Linear Control Theory provides the fundamental theoretical background needed to fully exploit control system design software. This logically–structured text opens with a detailed treatment of the relevant aspects of the state space analysis of linear systems. End–of–chapter problems facilitate the learning process by encouraging the student to put his or her skills into practice. Features include:
∗ The use of an easy to understand matrix variational technique to develop the time–invariant quadratic and LQG controllers
∗ A step–by–step introduction to essential mathematical ideas as they are needed, motivating the reader to venture beyond basic concepts
∗ The examination of linear system theory as it relates to control theory
∗ The use of the PBH test to characterize eigenvalues in the state feedback and observer problems rather than its usual role as a test for controllability or observability
∗ The development of model reduction via balanced realization
∗ The employment of the L2 gain as a basis for the development of the H??? controller for the design of controllers in the presence of plant model uncertainty
Senior undergraduate and postgraduate control engineering students and practicing control engineers will appreciate the insight this self–contained book offers into the intelligent use of today s control system software tools.Linear control theory : the state space approach [texte imprimé] / Frederick Walker Fairman, Auteur . - Chichester : Wiley, 1998 . - 315 p ; 25 cm.

Yeasts are the world′s premier industrial micro–organisms. In addition to their wide exploitation in the production of foods, beverages and pharmaceuticals, yeasts also play significant roles as model eukaryotic cells in furthering our knowledge in the biological and biomedical sciences. In order for modern biotechnology to fully exploit the activities of yeasts, it is essential to appreciate aspects of yeast cell physiology. In recent years, however, our knowledge of yeast physiological phenomena has lagged behind that of yeast genetics and molecular biology. Yeast Physiology and Biotechnology redresses the balance by linking key aspects of yeast physiology with yeast biotechnology. Individual chapters provide broad and timely coverage of yeast cytology, nutrition, growth and metabolism – important aspects of yeast cell physiology which are pertinent to the practical uses of yeasts in industry. The final chapter reviews traditional, modern and emerging biotechnologies in which roles of yeasts in the production of industrial commodities and their value in biomedical research are fully discussed. Relevant aspects of classical and modern yeast genetics and molecular biology are fully integrated into the appropriate chapters. This up–to–date and fully referenced book is aimed at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate bioscience students, but will also prove to be a valuable source of information for yeast researchers and technologists.
