Environmental physics / Egbert Boeker
Titre : Environmental physics : sustainable energy and climate change / Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Egbert Boeker ; Rienk van Grondelle Mention d'édition : 3rd edition Importance : xiv, 440 pages, 16 unnumbered leaves of plates Présentation : illustrations Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-470-66675-3 Note générale : Previous edition: 1999. Mots-clés : Environmental physics Index. décimale : 551 Résumé : Previous edition: 1999.
This thoroughly revised and updated third edition focuses on the utilization of sustainable energy and mitigating climate change, serving as an introduction to physics in the context of societal problems. A distinguishing feature of the text is the discussion of spectroscopy and spectroscopic methods as a crucial means to quantitatively analyze and monitor the condition of the environment, the factors determining climate change, and all aspects of energy conversion. This textbook will be invaluable to students in physics and related subjects, and supplementary materials are available on a companion website.Environmental physics : sustainable energy and climate change / [texte imprimé] / Egbert Boeker ; Rienk van Grondelle . - 3rd edition . - [s.d.] . - xiv, 440 pages, 16 unnumbered leaves of plates : illustrations ; 25 cm.

Titre : Introduction to the physics and techniques of remote sensing Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Charles Elachi ; Jakob Van Zyl Mention d'édition : 2nd ed. / Editeur : Hoboken, N.J. : Wiley-Interscience Année de publication : 2006 Collection : Wiley series in remote sensing Importance : xvii, 552 p. Présentation : ill. (some col.), maps (some col.) Format : 26 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 0-471-47569-6 Mots-clés : physics techniques Data Analysis Index. décimale : 530 Résumé : The Second Edition of this authoritative book offers readers theessential science and engineering foundation needed to understandremote sensing and apply it in real–world situations. Thoroughlyupdated to reflect the tremendous technological leaps made sincethe publication of the first edition, this book covers the gamut ofknowledge and skills needed to work in this dynamic field, including:
∗ Physics involved in wave–matter interaction, the building blocksfor interpreting data
∗ Techniques used to collect data
∗ Remote sensing applications
The authors have carefully structured and organized the book tointroduce readers to the basics, and then move on to more advancedapplications. Following an introduction, Chapter 2 sets forth thebasic properties of electromagnetic waves and their interactionswith matter. Chapters 3 through 7 cover the use of remote sensingin solid surface studies, including oceans. Each chapter covers onemajor part of the electromagnetic spectrum (e.g., visible/nearinfrared, thermal infrared, passive microwave, and activemicrowave).
Chapters 8 through 12 then cover remote sensing in the study ofatmospheres and ionospheres. Each chapter first presents the basicinteraction mechanism, followed by techniques to acquire, measure, and study the information, or waves, emanating from the mediumunder investigation. In most cases, a specific advanced sensor isused for illustration.
The book is generously illustrated with fifty percent new figures.Numerous illustrations are reproduced in a separate section ofcolor plates. Examples of data acquired from spaceborne sensors areincluded throughout. Finally, a set of exercises, along with asolutions manual, is provided.
This book is based on an upper–level undergraduate and first–yeargraduate course taught by the authors at the California Instituteof Technology. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the fieldand its applications, it is appropriate for students in electricalengineering, applied physics, geology, planetary science, astronomy, and aeronautics. It is also recommended for any engineeror scientist interested in working in this exciting field.Introduction to the physics and techniques of remote sensing [texte imprimé] / Charles Elachi ; Jakob Van Zyl . - 2nd ed. / . - Hoboken, N.J. : Wiley-Interscience, 2006 . - xvii, 552 p. : ill.
