Résumé : |
The Essentials of English Grammar series offers, in eight volumes, a complete and in-depth overview of English grammar from its origins to the present day.
Each booklet deals with a specific question following the same breakdown. A first part ("Historical Steps") of diachronic linguistics deals with the origins and evolution of phenomena: the language we know today is thus put into perspective. The second part ("Contemporary English") follows everything naturally from the first and offers a synchronic study of the language facts of contemporary English. Each chapter of these two parts systematically concludes with corrected exercises. A third part of application exercises allows the user to extend the reflection, for a better understanding of the phenomena, or to directly manipulate the grammatical mechanisms. |
