Discourse analysis / Brown,Gillian
Titre : Discourse analysis Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Brown,Gillian, Auteur ; Yule,George, Auteur Editeur : Cambridge : university press Année de publication : 1983 Importance : 288 P. Format : 23*15 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-521-28475-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Discourse language text context interpretation representation coherence information. Index. décimale : 421 Résumé : Discourse analysis is a term that has come to have different interpretations for scholars working in different disciplines. For a sociolinguist, it is concerned mainly with the structure of social interaction manifested in conversation; for a psycholinguist, it is primarily concerned with the nature of comprehension of short written texts; for the computational linguist, it is concerned with producing operational models of text-understanding within highly limited contexts. In this textbook, first published in 1983, the authors provide an extensive overview of the many and diverse approaches to the study of discourse, but base their own approach centrally on the discipline which, to varying degrees, is common to them all - linguistics. Using a methodology which has much in common with descriptive linguistics, they offer a lucid and wide-ranging account of how forms of language are used in communication. Their principal concern is to examine how any language produced by man, whether spoken or written, is used to communicate for a purpose in a context. Titre : Discourse and social life Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Srikant Sarangi ; Malcolm Coulthard Editeur : Longman Année de publication : 2000 Importance : xli, 298 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 23*15 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-582-40468-7 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Discourse social grammar text . Index. décimale : 421 Résumé : This collection brings together for the first time in a single volume many of the major figures in contemporary discourse studies. Each chapter is an original contribution which has been specifically commissioned for this book, and together they document the wide range of concerns and techniques which characterise the discipline at the turn of the century.
Discourse and Social Life is concerned with a variety of different types of data - talk, text and interaction - and covers research sites which range from the home setting through the health care setting and the courtroom to the public sphere. The book not only provides a critical, historical overview of different traditions of discourse analysis, but also projects to some extent the possible developments of this field of study, as other allied disciplines (Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Rhetoric and Communication Studies) are taking a discursive turn. Readers are invited to draw parallels between these different approaches to studying discourse in its social context.
The contributors are- Sally Candlin, Malcolm Coulthard, Justine Coupland, Nikolas Coupland, Norman Fairclough, Ruqaiya Hasan, Robert Kaplan, Geoff Leech, Yon Maley, Greg Myers, Celia Roberts, Srikant Sarangi, Ron Scollon, Theo van Leeuwen, Henry Widdowson and Ruth Wodak.Discourse and social life [texte imprimé] / Srikant Sarangi ; Malcolm Coulthard . - [S.l.] : Longman, 2000 . - xli, 298 p. : ill. ; 23*15 cm.
