Résumé : |
YORK HANDBOOKS form a companion series to York Notes and are designed to meet the wider needs of students of English and related fields. Each volume is a compact study of a given subject area, written by an authority with experience in communicating the essential ideas to students at all levels. AN INTRODUCTORY GUIDE TO ENGLISH LITERATURE has been written to cater for the needs of any student who is starting a course in English literature. The aim is to introduce the student to the tools of the trade - genres, themes, literary terms - and to offer guidance in the approach to study, essay- writing, and practical criticism and appreciation. The author also gives a brief account of the history of English literature so that the study of set books can be seen in a wider landscape of the subject as a whole. In this way this Handbook presents in one volume a basic core of information that can generally be regarded as essential for students of English literature. |
