Byatt, who drew on George Eliot's own childhood memories to construct an evocative story of first love, sibling rivalry, and regret. Possession author Byatt is included in Penguin Classics. Maggie Tulliver, who was raised in Dorlcote Mill, worships her brother Tom and is eager to win her parents' approval. However, because of her passionate, rebellious personality and her sharp intellect, she frequently finds herself at odds with her family. When she approaches maturity, she is forced to choose between her connections with three very different men, including her proud and obstinate brother, which causes the conflict between their expectations and her desires to cruelly play out. |
