Synopsis
The novel tells the tale of Lamuel Gulliver, a surgeon and ship’s captain told in four parts -
Lilliput: On his maiden voyage Gulliver is shipwrecked and washed ashore on a land populated by tiny people. Here he finds himself being charged with treason and must find a way to escape the island.
Brobdingnag: The second adventure sees Gulliver abandoned by his companions on the island of Brobdingnag, the land of the giants, where he issnatched by a golden eagle.
Laputa: After being attacked by pirates and marooned near India, Gulliver is rescued by the flying island of Laputa, whose population is very clever but with little common sense. It is customary for Laputa to hurl boulders down at towns that are rebellious.
Land of the Houyhnhnms: Gulliver’s final adventure sees his crew mutiny against him and leave him stranded in a boat. He encounters a race of vicious, deformed humanoids called Yahoos and the Houyhnhnms, a race of talking horses who rule over the Yahoos.
